A Brief History of Our Organization
Buffalo wasn't quite the same in 1904 as it is today. Erie County didn't have over one million population and there was less industry and commerce. But then, just as now, there was a great need for professionally designed protection against the financial disaster of fire and other perils. It was in an effort to fulfill this need for individuals and businessmen that Herbert Deuel and Percy Lapey formed Deuel, Lapey and Company, the predecessor to Edmund D. Stevens, Inc., now one of Buffalo's oldest independent insurance agencies.

As their reputation for dedicated service became widespread, their business expanded and they were joined by Mr. Stevens, Sr. in 1905. Through his efforts, the agency prospered greatly, until 1929 at which point he continued on his own as an independent agent. Interestingly enough, the original firm of Deuel, Lapey and Company was merged into the present corporation in 1969, and at this time, Peter M. Stevens is President, and Edmund D. Stevens, Jr., Chairman Emeritus. We're proud of that heritage and committed to continuing our reputation for dedicated service and insurance professionalism.
